About RetirePath


RetirePath Virginia expands access to retirement savings for more working Virginians.

The Virginia General Assembly passed legislation establishing an automatic-enrollment, state-facilitated retirement savings program in 2021. RetirePath opened in 2023.

Commonwealth Savers serves as program manager for RetirePath Virginia.

Formerly known as Virginia529, Commonwealth Savers is an independent agency of the Commonwealth of Virginia. It has a successful history providing affordable, tax-advantaged savings programs to help individuals and families achieve financial goals.

RetirePath Virginia is professionally administered by private-sector financial firms.

Vestwell State Savings, LLC (dba Sumday) is the program administrator for RetirePath Virginia. The Bank of New York Mellon is recordkeeper and investment custodian. BlackRock is the investment manager.

Leadership

A Program Advisory Committee (PAC) supports Commonwealth Savers with RetirePath oversight. The committee includes experts in retirement plan design, investment management, and business.
